Cooperatives CS Wycliffe Oparanya has announced he is open to supporting Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna if he runs for president in the 2027 General Election. 

Cooperatives and MSMEs Development Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya has announced he is open to supporting Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna if he runs for president in the 2027 General Election. 

Speaking on Thursday, August 6, CS Oparanya noted that Sifuna has not informed him of any intention to contest for the country's top seat. 

However, Oparanya said he would back the Nairobi Senator should he declare his candidacy.

“Sifuna has not told me that he is seeking the presidency, but if he is running for President, we will support him,” Oparanya stated. 

CS Oparanya also mentioned that winning the presidency requires broad national support.

He emphasized that if Sifuna runs for the seat, leaders from the Western region would have to seek support from other communities across the country.

“It's not simply a matter of saying, he is our son, or we have endorsed Sifuna. We must also reach out to other communities and seek their support,” CS Oparanya added. 

At the same time, CS Oparanya expressed confidence in his ability to serve as Deputy President if given the opportunity.

“If I get the chance to become Deputy President, I will deliver fully,” the Cooperatives Cabinet Secretary added.

This comes days after Oparanya dismissed reports of eyeing the Deputy President position. 

Speaking on Monday, August 3, Oparanya said he has not considered going to the Deputy President seat. 

CS Oparanya noted that the seat is already occupied by Kithure Kindiki, adding that it was premature to talk about it. 

“I have not thought about becoming Deputy President. That office is already occupied by someone, and I respect him; he is doing a very good job. 

“I think it is premature to talk about it. People keep talking about it, but you have never heard me taking,” said Oparanya. 

The Cooperatives CS went on to say he was caught off guard when Suna East MP Junet Mohamed endorsed him for the Deputy President's position. 

“In fact, I was surprised when I was seated in a meeting, and Junet stood up and, without me knowing, he talked about it. He has continued to talk in other places even without my knowledge,” CS Oparanya added.
