Dedan Kimathi University Announces Scholarship Opportunities; How to Apply

Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT) has announced scholarship opportunities for qualified applicants seeking to pursue postgraduate studies in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines.

In a notice on Tuesday, August 11, the institution said the scholarships will support Master of Science (M.Sc) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) studies in selected areas, with opportunities available for graduate assistants, technologists and technicians.

"The Government of Kenya through the state department of higher education has received financing from the African Development Bank (AfDB) toward the support to Higher Education Science Technology Phase II project," the notice read in part.

DeKUT said it intends to use part of the financing received under the project to support scholarships in STEM fields.

Under the M.Sc category, scholarship opportunities are available in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, with specialisations in Microelectronic Engineering and Power Systems Engineering. 

Other areas include Mechanical Engineering (Machine Tools), Computer Science, Food Science and Technology, and Industrial Biochemistry.

The university has listed two graduate assistant positions and one technologist/technician position for M.Sc in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Microelectronic Engineering). 

Mechanical Engineering (Machine Tools) has two graduate assistant and one technologist/technician opportunity, while Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Power Systems Engineering) has one graduate assistant scholarship.

Computer Science has two graduate assistant and one technologist/technician opportunity, while Food Science and Technology has one graduate assistant and one technologist/technician opportunity.

Industrial Biochemistry has one graduate assistant scholarship.

For Ph.D studies, DeKUT has announced one scholarship in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, specialising in Power Systems Engineering, and one scholarship in Civil and Environmental Engineering, specialising in Geotechnical Engineering.

Applicants have been directed to access the full advertisement, eligibility requirements and application forms through the university website or from the offices of the Registrar (Academics Affairs and Research) and Admissions at Dedan Kimathi University of Technology.

Interested applicants are required to submit their applications to the Registrar (Academics Affairs and Research) by August 25 at 5:00 p.m.

Persons with disabilities have specifically been encouraged to apply for the scholarship opportunities.

This comes a day after the State Department for Diaspora Affairs announced 5,000 online scholarship opportunities in partnership with the European Business University of Luxembourg (EBU).

In a notice on Monday, August 10, the department said the initiative is being offered in conjunction with EBU, which was founded by a Kenyan in the diaspora.

According to the State Department for Diaspora Affairs, the scholarships are open to applicants interested in certificate, degree and diploma programmes, as well as specialised training opportunities.

The available programmes include Certificate and Degree Impact courses designed to provide learners with skills and knowledge in different areas.

Another opportunity under the programme is the Robotics for Rookies programme, which targets girls aged between 11 and 18 years.

Applicants can also pursue a Diploma in Business Management through the eTVET EUNI Training Institute. 

Those interested in the diploma programme have been encouraged to register their interest through the designated application form.
