Elgeyo Marakwet Senator William Kisang takes over as the Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Energy following Senator Oburu Oginga's resignation.
Appearing in the Committee on Tuesday, August 11, Oburu announced that he had stepped down from his role as chair due to circumstances beyond his control.
He further dismissed claims that he had been forced out of the chairmanship and wished Senator Kipsang well.
"I have resigned. The reasons are beyond my own control. Nobody should say that I have been removed; there is no coup here.
"There is only a peaceful transfer, and whoever you elect will peacefully take over once again. Once again. Thank you, everyone," the ODM Party Leader told his colleagues.

Kisang, who had been serving as the Committee's vice chair, was elected to take over the leadership while Nominated Senator Beatrice Ogolla was elected as the new vice-chairperson.
The Elgeyo Marakwet Senator promised to work with his fellow Committee members to ensure that the country's energy issues are addressed adequately.
"I want to take this opportunity to thank members of this committee for having confidence in me and electing me as the chair. I am taking over from ODM Party Leader, whose shoes are very big. We are going to use your guidance as our patron to ensure our people get power(electricity)," Kisang stated
On her part, Ogolla expressed gratitude to Oburu for proposing her to serve in her new role. Notably, the ODM Leader will continue to serve in the Senate Committee on Energy but as an ordinary member.
"I want to thank the party leader for holding our hands, and members of this committee for giving me this chance," the Nominated Senator reiterated.
The Siaya Senator served as Chairperson since February 2025, when he took over from Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga. His resignation came barely months after Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna was removed from the Energy Committee and replaced with Siaya Senator Moses Kajwang'.
