On Tuesday, August 11, principals in the United Opposition held a meeting behind closed doors amid whispers of cracks within the team.
In photos shared on social media, DCP Leader Rigathi Gachagua, Jubilee Deputy Party Leader Fred Matiang'i, and DAP-K Leader Eugene Wamalwa were present for the meeting at an undisclosed location.
They were also joined by leaders from Mount Kenya East, including Democratic Party Leader and former Attorney General Justin Muturi, Devolution Empowerment Party (DEP) Leader Lenny Kivuti and Party of National Unity (PNU) Leader Amos Kimunya.
Notably, Wiper Party Boss Kalonzo Musyoka was missing. He was in Mombasa, where he was attending a meeting with the East African Tea Trade Association (EATTA).
Nonetheless, he was represented by newly appointed Party Chairman Jamleck Kamau and Deputy Party Leader and Nyali Member of Parliament Moha Jicho Pevu.

The leaders spoke with one voice, reaffirming their commitment to remaining united in the fight to remove President William Ruto from office through the ballot in 2027.
According to Gachagua, the meeting was convened by Karua, whom he praised for being the mother figure in the liberation.
"One year to the 2027 General Election, we met this afternoon and renewed our commitment that no matter what, we shall have one single presidential candidate to send Mr William Ruto home and restore our country and the dignity of Kenyans.
"Thank you, my sister, the Iron Lady, Hon Martha Karua, for being the mother of our liberation and always bringing us together," the former Deputy President stated.
On his part, Matiang'i stated that during the meeting, the leaders in the United Opposition renewed their commitment to present one presidential candidate to the people of Kenya, and restore the country and the dignity of Kenyans.
Muturi simply captioned the photo saying 'Wantam', while Munya wrote, 'United for Kenya. Wantam is real for the Kenya Kwisha regime'.
The meeting came amid weeks of infighting between the leaders in the United Opposition. Earlier, Muturi, Kibuti and Munya accused Gachagua of trying to bully their parties into folding and joining his DCP.
They made it clear that the former DP was not the Mount Kenya Region kingpin. However, Gachagua maintained that he had not asked anyone to fold their party for his, adding that all parties should field candidates for all elective seats apart from the presidency.
On the other hand, a prolonged verbal exchange ensued between leaders allied to Gachagua and Matiang'i. The elected leaders allied to the former Interior Boss accused Gachagua of undermining their leader and campaigning along tribal lines.
In response, Gachagua's associates made it clear that he would only engage fellow party leaders and not individuals who are deputy party leaders, like Matiang'i is at the Jubilee Party.
