The Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) has confirmed that construction of the bridge on Enziu River is 70 per cent complete.
During an inspection of the project on Tuesday, August 11, KeRRA Director General Jackson Mangondu assessed the steel girders which will be used to erect the Enziu Bridge in Maingi, Kitui County.
Mangondu stated the availability of the metallic girders was a major milestone in the project, and it would further accelerate the completion of the construction works.
"Once the installation of the steel girders and other superstructure elements is done, that is expected to accelerate the remaining works and bring the project closer to completion," KeRRA explained.
The Authority noted that upon completion, the new Enziu Bridge will improve connectivity and facilitate the movement of people, goods and services for the communities in Nguni and Muangeni.

Residents of Mutyang'ombe, Kaii, Nuu and surrounding areas are also expected to benefit from the project.
KeRRA reiterated its commitment to ensuring timely completion of the project while ensuring quality and accountability in its service delivery.
On August 8, a representative of the lead engineer told Livestock Principal Secretary Jonathan Mueke and his Aviation Counterpart, Terisia Malokwe, that the project would be completed in 90 days.
PS Malokwe lauded President William Ruto for keeping the promise he made to the communities that would benefit from the bridge.
The Enziu Bridge became infamous in 2021, when a bus trying to cross the flooded river overturned, killing a total of 33 passengers.
Residents and leaders called on the government to build a new bridge that would rise above River Enziu to prevent a repeat of the dreadful incident.
Before the incident, five passengers lost their lives after the vehicle they were travelling in was swept away while trying to cross the flooded river.
