Principals of the United Alternative Government have signed unity commitments aimed at consolidating their political alliance ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The agreement was signed on Monday, August 24, at Windsor Hotel in Kiambu County, with the leaders committing to remain united, establish a credible process for selecting their presidential candidate, and support whoever emerges as the coalition’s flag bearer.
"We, the Principals of the United Alternative Government, meeting at Windsor Hotel in Kiambu County, have today taken a decisive step towards consolidating our unity and presenting the people of Kenya with a credible, democratic and transformative alternative government," the statement read.
The principals said their decision followed extensive consultations, during which they agreed to sign both a Personal Unity Pledge and a Coalition Unity Agreement.
"After extensive and candid consultations, we have unanimously agreed to execute a Personal Unity Pledge and a Coalition Unity Agreement, through which each Principal commits individually and collectively to remain united, participate in a credible process of selecting our presidential candidate, and thereafter fully support and campaign for the candidate chosen to carry our common mandate into the 2027 General Election," the statement added.

The leaders said the agreement was intended to respond to Kenyans seeking an alternative political leadership capable of putting national interests ahead of individual ambitions and party interests.
"We recognise that millions of Kenyans are looking beyond individual leaders and political parties. They are asking whether those seeking to provide alternative leadership have the courage to put aside personal ambitions, historical differences and partisan considerations in defence of the greater national interest. Our answer today is unequivocal: Kenya comes first," the statement further read.
Under the Personal Unity Pledge, the principals committed themselves to abide by the coalition's collective decisions and support its eventual presidential candidate.
"Under the Personal Unity Pledge, every Principal solemnly commits before the people of Kenya to respect the collective decision of the Coalition, participate faithfully in the process of selecting our presidential candidate, and give his or her full support, political strength and resources to the common cause," the statement explained.
The Coalition Unity Agreement also commits the leaders to a presidential candidate-selection process that they described as fair, transparent and credible.
The principals further pledged to support the nominee and avoid actions that could weaken the coalition.
"The Coalition Unity Agreement further binds us to a fair, transparent and credible presidential candidate-selection process and to supporting the eventual nominee regardless of which one of us is selected. We have equally undertaken not to undermine the selected candidate, sponsor rival candidacies or engage in actions calculated to fragment the Coalition," the statement added.
The agreement was signed by Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, People's Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Wangari, Jubilee Deputy Party leader Fred Matiang’i, and DCP Deputy Leader Cleophas Malala on behalf of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua
Democratic Party of Kenya (DP) leader Justin Muturi, Democratic Action Party-Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa, Party of National Unity (PNU) leader Peter Munya, Devolution Empowerment Party (DEP) leader Lenny Kivuti and People's Democratic Party (PDP) Omingo Magara also signed the pact.
Meanwhile, Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has urged President William Ruto to stop attacking his predecessor, Uhuru Kenyatta.
Speaking earlier Monday, he called out Ruto for dragging Uhuru's name in his political rants, especially in his last interview where the Head of State accused Uhuru of joining the opposition instead of retiring from politics.
Nyoro told Ruto that Uhuru was not part of the manifesto, which he sensationally claimed that the Kenya Kwanza government had failed to deliver on.
"The other day we saw the President doing an interview, and I want to remind them that Uhuru Kenyatta was not part of this government's manifesto. Insulting him was not part of the plan of this failed wheelbarrow government.
"I want to send a very clear message to this government. Leave Uhuru Kenyatta alone! He is a man who is respected across the whole country. He did his work and retired with grace," the MP warned.
Nyoro further claimed that those in government had failed to deliver on their promises to Kenyans who voted it into office in 2022.
He told Ruto that he did not have to wait for Kenyans to send him home through the ballot, and advised him to step down from the top seat.
"If you feel like you have failed to deliver on the promises you made, you do not have to wait until the 2027 elections. You can do Kenyans a favour by packing your bags and going home now," he added.
