Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a 21-year-old suspect over allegedly beating a farmhand to death in Trans Nzoia.
In a statement on Thursday, August 27, DCI said the suspect, identified as Samuel Kemboi, was arrested by detectives based in Kiminini Sub-County in a joint operation involving officers from Kiungani Police Station and members of the public.
“Detectives based in Kiminini Sub-County, Trans Nzoia County, have arrested a 21-year-old suspect in connection with a fatal assault of a farm worker in Tawai village, Wamuini sub-location.
“The suspect, Samuel Kemboi, was cornered and apprehended following a swift chase by detectives, alongside Kiungani police station officers, with assistance from vigilant members of the public,” the statement read in part.
According to the DCI, the deceased, 22-year-old Stephen Ndungu, had been engaged as a farmhand a day before the fatal incident.

The investigative agency noted that Kemboi and Ndungu got into a confrontation over a mobile phone.
“On the afternoon of August 24, 2026, a bitter confrontation broke out between Ndungu and Kemboi over a mobile phone,” DCI stated.
The dispute quickly escalated into a physical fight during which Kemboi allegedly assaulted Ndungu with several heavy blows.
Ndungu collapsed during the assault and died on the spot.
Police Officers who responded to the incident documented visible physical injuries on the deceased's head, face, and stomach.
Kemboi is currently in police custody as Kiminini detectives complete their investigations ahead of arraignment.
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased was moved to the Kiminini Cottage Mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
This comes days after detectives arrested an 18-year-old suspect linked to the murder of two elderly women.
In a statement on Sunday, August 23, DCI said the suspect, identified as Ezekiel Nyongesa Barasa, attacked an 84-year-old woman in Trans Nzoia.
The elderly woman was admitted to Cherangany Nursing Home after the attack but succumbed to the injuries.
“The victim, Florence Khosa, 84, was admitted to Cherangany Nursing Home after sustaining serious injuries in the attack.
“Despite the medical team’s determined efforts to save her life, she succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment,” read the statement in part.
The DCI detectives then launched a manhunt for the suspect, who had reportedly gone into hiding, and arrested him.
“He was subsequently subjected to an identification parade, where witnesses positively identified him,” DCI said.
The detectives also uncovered another lead linking the suspect to the alleged killing of an 86-year-old woman in Bungoma County.
“But as detectives dug deeper, another lead surfaced, linking the suspect to another alleged killing involving an 86-year-old woman in Tongaren, Bungoma County,” DCI said.
