Babu Owino has ridiculed ODM over a plan to hand Sakaja a ticket to contest for his re-election in 2027.
Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino has ridiculed ODM over a plan to hand Governor Johnson Sakaja a ticket to contest for his re-election in 2027.
Speaking in Homa Bay County on Friday, August 26, Babu wondered how ODM could hand a party ticket to Sakaja, who never supported the late Raila Odinga.
He argued that the Nairobi Governor has always been on the side of Raila's political rivals across three critical elections and thus should be the last person that ODM should work with.
"In 2007, Sakaja supported Kibaki because he did not want Raila. In 2013, he supported Uhuru and did the same in 2017 because he did not like Raila.
"In 2022, he supported Ruto instead of Raila, but now ODM want to back Sakaja. What kind of stupidity is that?" Babu stated.

The MP reiterated that he will run for Nairobi Governor in 2027. He pledged his solidarity to the traders who were protesting in the Central Business District (CBD) over changes in the import tax policy.
Babu opined that mass protests have proven to be the most effective path to institute change in the country and promised to stand by the entrepreneurs as they air their grievances.
"Protests chased away the colonial government, gave us multi-party democracy, a new Constitution, and the handshakes that Raila had with three presidents. Let the traders protest because the government has increased taxes," he stated.
Meanwhile, Hoba Bay Senator Moses Kajwang' reached out to Siaya Governor James Orengo and Babu to consider working with the government.
He argued that there was a provision for Linda Mwananchi, who believes in fixing the country's software, to work with the broad-based government that is focused on the hardware.
Babu's sentiments came days after Sakaja disclosed that he had received invitations to join ODM from some of the elected leaders. He clarified that he was considering the matter and would make a final decision at the right time.
