Sports CS Salim Mvurya has rewarded Malkia Strikers with Ksh1 million after they defeated Cameroon and qualified for the final of the 2026 CAVB Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship. 

Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya has rewarded Malkia Strikers with Ksh1 million after they defeated Cameroon and qualified for the final of the 2026 CAVB Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship. 

In a statement on Thursday night, September 3, CS Mvurya praised the team for their performance in the match, which was played at the Kasarani Indoor Arena. 

The Sports CS also promised the Malkia Strikers an additional presidential reward if they emerge victorious in the final.

“What a night at Kasarani! The arena was packed to the rafters, and the incredible Kenyan crowd became the 7th player, roaring our queens to victory. 

“I rewarded them with Ksh1,00,000 following their semi-final victory and promised a Presidential reward should they triumph in Friday’s final,” Mvurya announced.

The Malkia Strikers booked their place in the final after they crushed Cameroon 3-0 in the semi-final played at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

Kenya won all three sets 25-19, 25-20 and 25-20. 

The Malkia Strikers will face Egypt in the final on Friday at 6:00 PM. Egypt qualified for the final after defeating Rwanda 3-0 in the semifinal. 

President William Ruto has also hailed the Malkia Strikers following their victory over Cameroon. 

In a statement on Friday morning, President Ruto described the win as a proud moment for the country. 

“We are proud of the outstanding performance of our Malkia Strikers at the 2026 Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship. 

“The commanding 3-0 victory over Cameroon, that secured a place in the final, was a proud moment for our country,” Ruto stated. 

The Head of State wished the team all the best in the final against Egypt, assuring the players that the entire country stands firmly behind them.

“As you take this final step, know that the nation stands firmly behind you. All the best in the final. Make Kenya proud,” President Ruto added. 

The Malkia Strikers will be seeking their 11th African Championship title after clinching their 10th continental crown in 2023.
