ODM Leader leader Raila Odinga today addressed his supporters in Kisumu, drumming up support for the BBI.

ODM Leader Raila Odinga today, May 24, 2021, addressed his supporters in Kisumu after visiting the lakeside city.

Earlier reports indicated that the former premier landed in the city to foil the political tension in the region ahead of President Uhuru's visit to Kisumu in June 2021.

The lakeside city is expected to play host to this year's Madaraka Day celebrations.

The former Prime Minister dispelled fears that the Constitution Amendment Bill 2020 otherwise known as the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) is dead.

Raila assured his supporters that "Reggae" is back, and that the process will overcome the High Court ruling on the document as the case moves to the court of appeal.

Speaking in his native Luo, the ODM leader urged residents of Nyanza to remain calm and united behind the BBI, assuring them that the handshake between him and President Uhuru Kenyatta remains intact.

The former premier inspected the newly constructed Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium in Kisumu, where the Madaraka Day celebrations are set to be held.

From the grounds, he also addressed a second group of supporters who had accompanied him into the stadium.

The High Court five-judge bench ruling on the BBI sent a shock wave to proponents of the document, causing unrest among supporters of President Kenyatta and Raila.
