EACC has arrested two Judiciary staff members in Eldoret and Nakuru in separate cases involving allegations of soliciting and receiving bribes in connection with court services.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested two Judiciary staff members in Eldoret and Nakuru in separate cases involving allegations of soliciting and receiving bribes in connection with court services.

In a statement on Wednesday, September 9, EACC said the arrests involve a Court Assistant attached to a Magistrate’s Court in Eldoret and a court process server attached to the Nakuru Law Courts Civil Registry.

"The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested two court staff in Eldoret and Nakuru in separate incidents of soliciting and receiving bribes in connection with court services," the statement read.

In Eldoret, EACC arrested Court Assistant Linet Okungu on September 8, 2026, following allegations that she solicited and received a Ksh20,000 bribe in connection with a case pending before the court.

"The money was part of a bribe sought to facilitate the issuance of a stay order stopping the auction of a parcel of land in a matter pending before the court," the statement added.

According to EACC, the arrest followed a complaint from a court user who alleged that a Magistrate had demanded Ksh50,000 to secure the stay order. 

The commission said the complaint led to the arrest of Okungu after she allegedly received Ksh20,000.

"The arrest followed a complaint by a court user who alleged that a Magistrate had demanded Ksh50,000 to secure the stay order," the statement further read.

Okungu was processed at Eldoret Police Station and later released on a cash bail of Ksh20,000 as investigations continue.

In Nakuru, EACC arrested a court process server attached to the Nakuru Law Courts Civil Registry over allegations of soliciting and receiving a bribe to allocate a convenient mention date for a complainant’s case.

The suspect, identified as Benard Ngeno, was taken to the EACC South Rift Regional Office in Nakuru for processing.

"The suspect, Benard Ngeno, was escorted to the EACC South Rift Regional Office in Nakuru for processing and was later released on a cash bail of Ksh5,000 pending completion of investigations," the statement added.

This comes days after EACC arrested four public officials in separate operations in Kwale and Bungoma counties over allegations of soliciting and receiving bribes from members of the public.

In a statement on Friday, September 4, the commission said the arrests targeted two Kenya Power security officers in Diani, Kwale County, and two Law Enforcement and Compliance officers from the Bungoma County Government in Kimilili, as the anti-graft agency intensifies its crackdown on bribery at public service delivery points.

"Those arrested include two security officers from Kenya Power in Diani, Kwale County, and two Law Enforcement and Compliance officers from the Bungoma County Government in Kimilili," the statement read.

In Kwale, EACC officers from the Lower Coast Regional Office in Mombasa arrested Kenya Power officials Joseph Dena and Fredrick Odhiambo after they allegedly solicited a Ksh100,000 bribe from a complainant.

"The officers are alleged to have accused the complainant of using electricity illegally and demanded the money in exchange for helping him secure his release and ensuring that he would not face legal action," the statement added.

In Bungoma, the Commission arrested county government enforcement officers Victoria Mala Nafula and Elizabeth Nafuna Lukhale after they allegedly solicited and received a bribe from a cyber café operator in Kimilili Municipality.

"The officers are alleged to have demanded money from the business owner to allow her to continue operating her business without a licence. They are also alleged to have threatened to shut down the business if she failed to pay the bribe," the statement noted.

The suspects were taken to the EACC Western Regional Office in Bungoma to record statements before being transferred to Bungoma Police Station, where they spent the night.

They were released the following morning on a cash bail of Ksh20,000 each as investigations continue.
