ODM dedicated the entire month of October to honouring Raila's memory.

On Thursday, September 10, the ODM party unveiled 'Mwezi wa Baba', a month-long commemoration marking one year since the passing of the founder, the late Raila Odinga.

ODM confirmed that it had dedicated the entire month of October to honour Raila's memory.

The party further announced a calendar of activities for the month, including candle lighting, a major rally and family activities.

"God plucked the best flower from our midst. In recognition of his tireless contribution to our country's democracy and his Pan-Africanism, the party is dedicating the month of October as MWEZI WA BABA with the following activities," the statement read in part.

ODM invited Kenyans for candle lighting on October 2. Kenyans across the country will be required to light candles in remembrance of Raila at 6 p.m.

The Orange Party announced a major memorial rally in Kakamega Town on October 9, which is expected to bring together supporters from Western Kenya.

After the rally, the Odinga family is expected to lead the country in a series of activities between October 10 and 15, which will culminate in a memorial service at Kang'o Ka Jaramogi.

ODM will hold a second memorial rally in Garissa Town to allow supporters from Northern Kenyan Counties such as Wajir, Garissa, Mandera, Isiolo and Marsabit to remember the late former Prime Minister.

After Garissa, memorial activities will be held in Kajiado and Turkana Counties on 21 and 23 October respectively. The monthlong commemoration will wind up with a memorial rally in Nairobi County.

"We urge all our supporters to rededicate their commitment to Baba's ideal. God bless ODM. God Bless Kenya," the statement from Chungwa House read.

The late Raila Odinga died on October 15, 2025, while receiving treatment at the Devamatha Hospital in Kerala, India.


Speaking about the last moments of the departed leader, his long-time bodyguard Maurice Ogeta intimated that Odinga suffered a heart attack while the two were on a morning walk around the facility.
