IEBC has announced an enhanced voter registration exercise in Ol-Kalou Constituency following the conduct of by-elections in the area.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced an enhanced voter registration exercise in Ol-Kalou Constituency following the conduct of by-elections in the area.

In a Gazette Notice dated Tuesday, September 15, the commission said the exercise will run for one month, beginning Monday, September 21, 2026, and ending Tuesday, October 20, 2026.

IEBC said the exercise would provide eligible residents with an opportunity to register as voters, transfer their voter registration, update their details and verify their registration status.

"In exercise of the powers conferred by Articles 83 and 88 (4) (a) of the Constitution of Kenya, sections 5, 7 and 8 of the Elections Act, 2011 and Regulations 3, 4, 5 and 7 of the Elections (Registration of Voters) Regulations, 2012 and following the conduct of by-elections in Ol-Kalou Constituency, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission gives notice that there will be enhanced continuous voter registration of voters from Monday, 21st September, 2026 to Tuesday 20th October, 2026, in Ol-Kalou Constituency," the notice read.

According to IEBC, the exercise will be conducted at County Assembly Ward level, the Ol-Kalou Constituency Office and other designated registration points within the constituency that may be approved by the Commission.

Eligible Kenyan citizens aged 18 years and above will be required to have a valid national identity card or a valid Kenyan passport to access the services.

Those eligible will be able to register as voters, transfer their registration to another electoral area, update or correct their voter registration particulars and verify their voter registration status.

IEBC said the registration services would be available every day throughout the exercise, including Saturdays and Sundays.

Voters seeking to transfer their registration to another electoral area will be required to appear in person at the IEBC Constituency Office of their preferred electoral area.

Those seeking to update or correct their voter registration details, however, will be required to visit the IEBC Constituency Office where they are currently registered.

IEBC further clarified that voter registration activities would continue after the enhanced exercise ends.

IEBC said Continuous Voter Registration and regular revision of the Register of Voters would thereafter continue at the Ol-Kalou IEBC Constituency Office from Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays, between 8.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m.

This comes a day after IEBC dismissed claims by UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar that the dead will vote in the 2027 General Election.

In a statement issued by IEBC Commissioner Alutalala Mukhwana on Monday, September 14, he stated that a lifeless individual couldn't vote.

Mukhwana added that the IEBC system uses identification and verification features which only grant access to living beings.

"The machines we have rely on biometrics such as fingerprints and iris. So how can a dead person register as a voter or even vote?" he posed.

The commissioner clapped back at Hassan and warned other politicians against making reckless statements to undermine the electoral commission's credibility.

"Politicians must exercise caution because we are tired of the statements that are hateful and erode public trust in IEBC. They have crossed the line," Mukhwana declared.
