Gachagua Goes After President Ruto Over Remarks on Uhuru Kenyatta

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has launched a fresh attack on President William Ruto after questioning how his predecessor, Uhuru Kenyatta, expects to defeat him in the 2027 General Election after failing to do so when he was President. 

In a post on Wednesday, September 16, Gachagua said President Ruto’s win in the 2022 General Election was not evidence that Uhuru had failed to defeat him. 

Gachagua argued that Uhuru did not sufficiently convince him and other Kenyans that Ruto was unfit to lead the country.

“Let me remind you, because memory seems to fail you; You were not elected as President because President Uhuru Kenyatta failed to defeat you.

“President Uhuru Kenyatta did not sufficiently convince me and a majority of Kenyans that you were incapable of leading the country,” Gachagua stated.

The DCP party leader went on to tell President Ruto that his opponent in next year’s election is not Uhuru. 

“President Uhuru Kenyatta is not your opponent in this election. You are just trying a bad deflection. Poor tactic, Mr. Ruto, but we know you very well,” said Gachagua. 

According to Gachagua, President Ruto’s real opponents in the 2027 General Election are ordinary Kenyans. 

“These are your real opponents, and you should not confuse them with the shadow of President Uhuru Kenyatta,” added Gachagua. 

On Tuesday in Siaya, President Ruto wondered how Uhuru Kenyatta could defeat him in the 2027 General Election after failing to defeat him in the last election. 

“I want to ask you people of Siaya, Uhuru Kenyatta did not defeat me when he was President. Now I am the President, and he is retired; how can he defeat me?” President Ruto posed. 

The Head of State has in recent weeks accused Uhuru of sponsoring politicians to challenge his administration. 

President Ruto has singled out the Linda Mwananchi faction, branding them as Uhuru’s puppets.
