The MP accused Murkomen of tribalism following the recent recruitment of police and administrative officers.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Cherangany, Patrick Simiyu, has threatened to file an impeachment motion against Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen over the unfair recruitment of police officers and government administrators.

Simiyu claimed that one community had allegedly been favoured in the recent police, chief and subchief recruitment, yet his constituency was home to several tribes.

He claimed that the unfair recruitment amounted to tribalism, which is enough ground for Murkomen to be impeached.

"The other day, they recruited 31 police officers. 27 were from the same community, while the four remaining slots were shared among other communities.

"Nine chiefs and assistant chiefs selected from this area were all from one community. We are continuing to engage lawyers on the way forward so that the government understands that Cherangany comprises more than one community," The MP explained.

Simiyu said that if former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was accused of tribalism during his impeachment, then the same can be used to remove Murkomen from office.

The MPs' sentiments came after both Gachagua and Jubilee Party Presidential Aspirant Fred Matiang'i raised an alarm over unfair practices in the recruitment and promotion of police officers.

Matiang'i claimed that a section of police officers had reached out to him to complain about the politicisation of police promotions, which saw under-qualified officers promoted into high ranks within the NPS.

He stated that the lack of a procedure, politicisation and confusion in the National Police Service damaged the security sector.

"I speak to police officers everywhere, including their bosses, and the biggest complaint is that some officers are promoted to OCSs out of nowhere, and when you look at their qualifications, you realise that qualified police were left behind," the ex-CS stated.

Gachagua sensationally claimed that only officers from Murkomen's community were being promoted in the NPS, and that the majority of OCSs in Nairobi were Kalenjins.

However, the NPS denied the allegations about the Nairobi police stations' OCSs, terming them unverifiable and unfounded.
