Digital strategist Pauline Njoroge has dismissed claims that former President Uhuru Kenyatta has tasked her with handling funds for the Linda Mwananchi movement.

In a statement on Thursday, September 17, Njoroge questioned why the state has not moved to seize the alleged funds from her if they believe Uhuru is funding the Linda Mwananchi movement. 

“In Ruto’s rally yesterday, I heard the broad-based fellows who ate agents money in 2022 claim that I am the one carrying Uhuru’s money. 

“Now that they have the state machinery, and all the instruments of power, why haven’t they waylaid me and taken the money, so that they cripple Linda Mwananchi financially if they actually believe that it’s Uhuru’s money that’s propelling the movement?” she posed. 

On Wednesday, Suna East MP Junet Mohamed claimed that Uhuru had sent Njoroge to handle his funds within the Linda Mwananchi movement.

“The sponsor, Uhuru Kenyatta, has sent a cashier, a woman named Pauline Njoroge, who is counting the money for Linda Mwananchi,” Junet alleged. 

This comes weeks after Uhuru responded to President William Ruto’s repeated claims that he is funding Linda Mwananchi. 

Speaking in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County, on August 16, Uhuru distanced himself from being described as a political “sponsor”, saying Kenyans should be allowed to make their own political choices. 

“I do not want to be called a sponsor. I do not want many issues. The choice belongs to the people, and there is no need to force any Kenyan to go to this side or that side," Uhuru said.

The retired president said politicians seeking votes should do so peacefully and allow voters to decide who they want to support.

“If it is about asking for votes, let us do it in peace. Kenyans know who they want. If they say they want Kalonzo, it is Kalonzo; if they say they want Ruto, it is Ruto; if they say they want Matiang’i, it is Matiang’i; and if they say they want Sifuna, it is Sifuna. Whoever they decide, it is up to them,” he opined.
