The Social Health Authority (SHA) has announced that it will begin a verification exercise for Level 4 healthcare providers with outstanding claims inherited from the defunct National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).
In a statement on Thursday, September 17, the authority said the exercise will target healthcare providers with pending claims amounting to Ksh10 million and above.
SHA said the verification process will commence on September 21, 2026, as part of efforts to establish and validate the outstanding claims.
"The Social Health Authority (SHA) informs Level 4 healthcare providers with pending claims of Ksh10 million and above arising from the defunct National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) that a medical surveillance and verification exercise will commence on 21st September 2026," the statement read.
SHA has directed the affected healthcare providers to prepare all documentation required to support the verification of their pending claims.

The documents should be properly organized and readily available for inspection.
The required records include invoices, service delivery records and claim submission records. Providers have also been asked to present any other supporting documents that were previously submitted to the former NHIF.
The verification exercise is expected to help SHA assess documentation relating to the claims and establish the records supporting the amounts owed to the affected healthcare facilities.
SHA has also provided details of the schedule for the affected healthcare providers, allowing facilities to establish when they are expected to participate in the verification exercise.
"The schedule for affected healthcare providers is available on the SHA website at sha.go.ke," the statement added.
SHA further clarified that the verification process for Level 4 facilities is separate from the exercise involving Level 3 healthcare providers whose NHIF claims remain outstanding.
"Information on the verification of pending claims for the outstanding Level 3 healthcare providers will be communicated separately through SHA's official channels," the statement concluded.
Elsewhere, SHA has announced the official launch of its E-Contracting Portal, paving the way for healthcare providers to submit applications for the new contracting cycle.
In a statement, the company said the portal went live on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. and will be used to facilitate the application and contracting of healthcare providers under four funds.
These include the Primary Health Care Fund (PHCF), Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), Emergency, Chronic and Critical Illness Fund (ECCIF), and Public Officers Medical Scheme Fund (POMSF).
Announcing the launch, SHA said the portal would now serve as the official platform through which healthcare providers can apply for contracts under the new cycle.
"The Social Health Authority (SHA) wishes to inform all healthcare providers that the SHA E-Contracting Portal is officially live as of today, Thursday, 17th September 2026 at 3:00 p.m," the statement read.
SHA further clarified that applications submitted before the official launch of the portal will not be considered as applications for the new contracting cycle.
"As previously communicated, any applications submitted through the portal before the official launch were for testing purposes and will be archived," the statement added.
The authority directed all healthcare providers to make fresh applications following the official activation of the portal.
"All healthcare providers are therefore required to submit fresh applications through the E-Contracting Portal from 3:00 p.m. on 17th September 2026," the statement further read.
