Kuria suggests that Gachagua outdid himself when he served as the deputy president compared to Kithure Kindiki.

One-time Trade and Industry Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has disparaged Deputy President Kithure Kindiki over the latter's apparent lack of determination in undertaking certain duties.

Via the X social network Sunday, September 20, Kuria took a swipe at Kindiki, accusing him of failing to match the seriousness with which his predecessor, Rigathi Gachagua, tackled the illicit alcohol trade in the Mt Kenya region.

Kuria referenced a funeral where mourners were burying a relative whose death was linked to alcohol abuse.

He used the occasion to draw a direct comparison between the two leaders who have successfully held the Mt Kenya political mantle.

Whilst he holds that Gachagua is a political blunderer who Mt Kenya people should not regard as a leader, Kuria argued that the former deputy president outdid himself in dealing with illicit alcohol during his tenure.

"Give credit where it is due. Rigathi Gachagua was serious about fighting illicit brews in the Mt Kenya region. The current holder of that office is not. This woman would not have gone through this pain," Kuria said.

Kuria's remarks come against the backdrop of a widening rift within Mt Kenya political circles over who should be recognised as the region's leading voice, with Kindiki having taken over as deputy president in late 2024 following Gachagua's impeachment.

Sustaining his indirect onslaught on Kindiki, Kuria turned his attention to a weekend event that saw the deputy president hosted by Councils of Elders drawn from the Gikuyu, Aembu, Mbeere and Ameru communities at Kirigiti Stadium in Kiambu, where he was installed as the region's go-to leader.

Kuria criticised the choice of venue, framing it as inappropriate for what he described as a divisive agenda.

"Kirigiti is the symbol of our freedom struggles. It is the birthplace of the nationalist movement. It is the worst choice of venue for a divisive agenda. It's wrong to host a Pasua Mlima conference at Kirigiti," Kuria said.

Kindiki and Gachagua have been taking on each other in the Mt Kenya supremacy battle, with each claiming their share of influence in the region.

Whilst Gachagua insists he is Mt Kenya's go-to leader who will lead the region's electorate in voting out President William Ruto in the next year's vote, Kindiki holds he has a considerable influence, with which he will sway the Mt Kenya vote in favour of Ruto.
