Uhuru Claps Back at Ruto Over Accusing Him of Being a 'Sponsor' and Rebel Leader

Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta has responded to President William Ruto over labelling him a 'sponsor' of the Opposition and terming him a rebel leader.

Speaking on Tuesday, September 22, Uhuru said that he will not be cowed into keeping quiet about his political views, adding that it was his democratic right.

He added that his opinions remained his own and that he had not forced any Kenyan to adopt his school of thought. Uhuru demanded respect from those dragging his name during rallies.

"I am not afraid. I will speak my truth. They can abuse me or do whatever they please. They are calling me sponyo, AKA rebel leader. Is it wrong to speak my mind in a democratic country?

"Have I forced anyone to adopt my opinions? They are just my personal opinions, and everyone will make their own decision. Tuheshimiane!" Uhuru reiterated.

Uhuru slammed Ruto over accusations that he sabotaged the Kenya Kwanza administration and funded rebellion against him.

He maintained that he had no intention of doing so, and reminded the Head of State that he handed over power to him peacefully despite not agreeing with the results of the election and the presidential election petition.

"We handed over to them all instruments of power in broad daylight, yet after four years they are still dragging my name everywhere.

"Were you given power to speak about the people or blame Uhuru? You know, when something is not working, people give excuses, but Kenyans are bright; they know," the Retired President added.

The former President warned the youth against leaders who focus on useless politics, and to elect leaders who serve the people who elect them into office.

He called for the youths to take their place in the future of the country, and advised the youths in the Jubilee Party to work with like-minded youth leaders.

"Let us shun useless politics and look for leaders who bring development, reduce corruption and serve the people, not going about insulting people because I don't even speak to them."

" The destiny ahead is yours. If youths in Jubilee decide to team up with other young leaders from elsewhere, whom you know but I will not mention, and you realise that you can work with them, then you should team up and build the country," he stated.

Uhuru formally endorsed former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i to take over as the Jubilee Party Leader.

He stated that the decision will be confirmed during the party's upcoming national delegates convention and rallied the delegates to vote for Matiang'i.

The outgoing Jubilee Party Leader further warned leaders within Jubilee who are fighting the party from within. He told them that they were free to leave the party, but he would not entertain division within the outfit.
