Chief Justice Martha Koome has appointed new chairpersons and members to six tribunals. 

The tribunals include: Standards, Competition, Energy and Petroleum, Industrial Property, Micro and Small Enterprises, and the Retirement Benefits Appeals.  

In the gazette notice dated Friday, September 25, CJ Koome Appointed John Joseph Wamwara as the chairperson of the Standards Tribunal. 

Wamwara will serve in the position for three years effective September 2, 2026. 

“In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 172 (1) (b) (i) and (c) of the Constitution and section 16A (2) of the Standards Act, the Judicial Service Commission appoints John Joseph Wamwara to be the Chairperson of the Standards Tribunal for a period of three years, with effect from the 2nd September, 2026,” read the notice.

CJ Koome also appointed Valentine Mwende Mulwa and Doris Kinya Mwirigi as chairpersons of the Competition Tribunal and Energy and Petroleum Tribunal respectively. 

Mulwa will serve in the role for a five-year term while Mwirigi will serve for four years. 

The Chief Justice further appointed Pauline Mudeshi Muhanda to be the Chairperson of the Industrial Property Tribunal for a period of three years. 

At the same time, Koome appointed Dorine Kalii David to be a Member of the Competition Tribunal for a period of five years. 

She also re-appointed Hillary Marrirmoi and Raymond Nyamweya to the Competition Tribunal for an additional three years. 

CJ Koome then appointed Duncan Mwiti Kinyua, Joan Jeptepkeny Korir, Faith Kanana Kaithia, and Steffi Annette Akinyi Okallo as members of the Micro and Small Enterprises Tribunal for five years. 

Additionally, she appointed Linus Oyimba Makhulo and Susy Ekesa Rauto to be members of the Retirement Benefits Appeals Tribunal for three years. 

This comes weeks after Koome established four new magistrates’ courts across the country. 

In a gazette notice issued on Friday, September 4, CJ Koome established the Kegonga Magistrates’ Court. 

According to the notice, the court will fall under the supervisory jurisdiction of the Migori High Court. 

“Take notice that the Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court of Kenya has established the Kegonga Magistrates’ Court, which is within the supervisory jurisdiction of the Migori High Court, with effect from 1st September, 2026,” read the notice. 

CJ Koome also established the Emuhaya, Maara and Tarakwa Magistrates’ Courts.
