30 Phones, Laptops Recovered as Police Arrest 2 Suspects in Kamulu

Police Officers have arrested two suspects and recovered 30 mobile phones, 3 laptops, and a motorcycle, among other items, in Kamulu. 

In a statement on Sunday, September 27, the National Police Service (NPS) said the suspects were nabbed following days of investigations into a series of robberies reported in the area.

According to the NPS, officers from Kamulu Police Station raided a house where the duo was believed to be residing. 

“Investigations into a series of robberies in Kamulu have yielded a major breakthrough, after days of investigation led police officers to two suspects believed to be linked to the incidents. 

“Officers from Kamulu Police Station yesterday raided a rented house where the suspects were believed to be residing, recovering a range of items thought to be connected to their criminal activities,” the statement read in part.

The two suspects then provided information that led investigators to several locations within Kayole Township, where additional suspected stolen property had been hidden.

“The recoveries included 30 mobile phones, three laptops, a motorcycle, a sound system, a television set, several identity cards, SIM cards and token meters,” NPS stated. 

The service noted that the suspects are in custody pending arraignment, while all the recovered items have been secured as exhibits.

“The National Police Service continues to strengthen action against crime through intelligence-led policing, investigation and targeted operations,” NPS added. 

This comes days after Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) raided a home in Makadara and recovered 120 smartphones, 10 laptops, two tablets, 18 assorted gas cylinders and assorted mobile phone spare parts. 

The DCI said the operation was launched after detectives received intelligence concerning suspected stolen electronic devices and other property allegedly held by a suspect.

"The recovery followed intelligence received by detectives concerning suspected stolen electronic devices and other property in the suspect’s possession," the statement read.

According to the DCI, acting on the intelligence, detectives raided the residence of Julius Murengi Gacheru, where they recovered the assorted items.

Gacheru was subsequently arrested and placed in custody as detectives commenced investigations into the source and ownership of the recovered property.

"The recovered items are now being processed as detectives work to establish their rightful owners and piece together the circumstances under which they came into the suspect’s possession," the DCI added.
