SHA Revises Dates for Verification of Hospitals With Ksh10 Million-Plus NHIF Claims

The Social Health Authority (SHA) has revised the dates for surveillance and verification of pending defunct NHIF claims involving Level 4 healthcare facilities.

In a notice on Monday, September 28, the authority said the changes affect facilities listed in a revised schedule issued by SHA following an earlier notice dated September 18, concerning pending claims valued at Ksh10 million or above.

"The Social Health Authority (SHA) informs Level 4 healthcare facilities listed in the revised schedule that their surveillance and verification dates have changed. 

"This follows our notice dated 18 September 2026 regarding pending defunct NHIF claims of KES 10 million or above," the notice read.

SHA said the affected healthcare facilities should review the updated schedule to establish their new verification dates and prepare the necessary documentation before the exercise.

"Affected facilities are requested to check the revised schedule, note their new dates, and have the required claim supporting documents ready for verification," the notice added.

The revised list of Level 4 healthcare facilities and the new verification schedule are available on the Social Health Authority website.

Meanwhile, SHA has called on healthcare providers offering SHA services to apply for new contracts.

In a notice on Monday, September 28, SHA CEO Mercy Mwangangi said the current provider contracts will expire on September 30, 2026, at 11:59 PM.  

Mwangangi urged the providers to apply for new contracts and complete the contracting process before October 1, 2026.

"The Social Health Authority notifies all healthcare providers/healthcare facilities that current provider contracts will expire on 30 September 2026 at 11:59 p.m.

"Providers wishing to continue offering services to SHA beneficiaries are encouraged to apply for a new contract and complete the contracting process before 01 October 2026," read the notice. 

The SHA CEO said healthcare providers without an executed contract for the 2026–2029 cycle will not be permitted to offer services to its beneficiaries after the deadline.

"Providers without an executed contract for the 2026-2029 cycle will not be permitted to offer services to SHA beneficiaries after that date, and their access to the SHA provider portal will be switched off," Mwangangi stated. 

Further, Mwangangi advised providers who have not completed the contracting process to make arrangements to transfer patients receiving ongoing care to contracted healthcare providers to ensure continuity of treatment. 

"All providers are urged to complete outstanding contracting requirements promptly to avoid interruptions to services for beneficiaries," she concluded.
