The Kenyan Embassy in Washington, D.C. has announced several job opportunities for qualified applicants seeking to work at the diplomatic mission.

In a notice on Tuesday, September 29, the mission said the positions are being offered on two-year fixed-term contracts, with opportunities for renewal subject to performance, operational requirements, continued funding and applicable terms and conditions of service.

"The Embassy of the Republic of Kenya in Washington, D.C. invites applications from suitably qualified, competent and highly motivated individuals to fill the following vacant positions on two (2) year fixed term contracts, renewable subject to satisfactory performance, operational requirements and the applicable terms and conditions of service," the notice read.

The advertised positions include four Driver positions, three Clerk positions, one Receptionist/Telephone Operator position, one Administrative Assistant position, three Consular Assistant positions and one Accounts Assistant position.

Applicants for the Driver positions must have a high school diploma or equivalent qualification, at least five years' experience as a professional chauffeur or driver and a valid U.S. Driver's License with an excellent driving record.

Previous experience working in a diplomatic mission, international organisation or comparable institution will be an added advantage for the Driver position.

For the three Clerk positions, applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent qualification, at least two years' relevant experience and excellent ICT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Experience in a diplomatic mission, international organisation or comparable institution will also be an advantage.

The Receptionist/Telephone Operator position requires a high school diploma or equivalent qualification, at least two years' experience in reception, customer service or office administration and excellent ICT skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.

The Administrative Assistant position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Social Sciences or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution. 

Applicants must also have at least two years' experience in a relevant field and excellent ICT skills.

For the three Consular Assistant positions, applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent qualification, at least two years' relevant experience in a similar field and excellent ICT skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.

The Accounts Assistant position requires a Diploma in Business, Accounting, Finance, Business Management or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution. 

Applicants must have at least two years' relevant professional experience in accounting, finance, bookkeeping or financial administration and be proficient in ICT, including Microsoft Office Suite.

The Embassy has set several general requirements for all applicants. 

Candidates must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents or possess valid authorisation to work in the United States in accordance with applicable immigration laws.

Applicants must also possess valid police clearance, a certificate of good conduct or equivalent background clearance documentation.

Candidates are required to submit an updated Curriculum Vitae detailing their academic qualifications, professional experience and competencies, together with at least two professional referees.

Applicants must also attach copies of their Green Card or valid work authorisation, police clearance or certificate of good conduct, academic and professional certificates, testimonials and other supporting documents.

Successful candidates will be appointed on two-year fixed-term contracts. The contracts will be renewable subject to satisfactory performance, operational requirements and continued funding.

The Embassy will offer competitive remuneration and benefits in accordance with its Local Staff Terms and Conditions of Service.

Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted and invited for interviews. Those shortlisted will be required to present their original academic and professional certificates, testimonials and other relevant documents during the interview.

The Embassy has also warned that any form of canvassing will result in automatic disqualification without reference to the applicant. Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered.

The Embassy further reserves the right to verify the authenticity of all information and documents submitted by applicants.

Interested candidates are required to clearly indicate the position they are applying for and submit their applications together with all supporting documents by Monday, October 12, 2026, at 17:00 hours EDT.
