Kenya Railways has unveiled plans to establish a dedicated railway connection linking Nairobi Central Business District (CBD), Nyayo Stadium and Talanta Sports City.
In a brief statement on Wednesday, September 30, Kenya Railways said the proposed connection would improve movement during major events while providing an alternative to road transport.
"The proposed connection will support seamless movement to and from major sporting venues, help ease road congestion during major events and improve accessibility for local and international visitors," the statement read.
According to Kenya Railways, the proposed railway connection will involve upgrading 13.3 kilometres of the existing railway track between Nairobi Central Station and Satellite.
The Corporation also plans to construct a 1.3-kilometre second line between Kibera and Satellite to serve the proposed Talanta Stadium Train Station.

Kenya Railways said the project will further include the construction of two new commuter stations at Talanta Stadium and Laini Saba, expanding rail access to areas serving major sporting facilities.
To improve pedestrian safety and access to railway services, the Corporation has proposed the construction of pedestrian overpasses and underpasses at Kibera, Laini Saba, Gatwekera and Kambi Muru.
Kenya Railways said the project would form part of broader efforts to integrate rail transport into Nairobi's urban mobility system.
"The connection will complement Nairobi’s wider urban transport network and strengthen the role of rail in supporting the city’s growing sports, entertainment and events economy," the statement added.
This comes months after Kenya Railways confirmed that it has begun identifying land for purchase to pave the way for the construction of the Naivasha-Kisumu-Malaba Gauge Railway (SGR).
In a statement on Friday, July 31, the Corporation stated that it had deployed a team of experts to conduct pre-acquisition surveys and boundary picking for land acquisition.
Kenya Railways explained that the team's undertaking will facilitate a smooth and transparent implementation process.
"Boundary picking for affected parcels of land along the corridor ensures accurate identification of affected land, protection of landowners' rights, fair compensation, and prevention of boundary disputes," the statement read in part.
The firm added that the process also facilitates survey and mapping, supports transparent public participation, reduces project delays and protects public resources.
It lauded the project, which was officially launched on July 1, as a transformative investment that will drive Kenya's economic growth.
"Communities along the railway corridor are set to benefit both during and after construction through increased economic opportunities, improved connectivity and enhanced livelihoods," the statement added.
