Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has congratulated Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna after he unveiled his new political vehicle, The Equitable Party (TEP). 

In a statement on Sunday, October 4, Gachagua described the launch of the new party as the beginning of Sifuna’s journey towards national leadership.

“My cousin, Senator Edwin Sifuna, congratulations are in order on the launch of your political party today. Democracy must prevail. To those who thought they could stop an idea whose time had come, we are sorry. Your time is up!

“The launch of your political vehicle, The Equitable Party, marks the real beginning of your journey to national leadership,” he wrote. 

The former DP advised Sifuna to move quickly to build the party by popularizing it and identifying candidates to contest various elective positions in the 2027 General Election.

“I encourage you to move with speed to market your new party and identify strong aspirants in your stronghold to get rid of Ruto sycophants and surrogates who have betrayed the electorate and the people of Kenya and our great nation,” Gachagua stated. 

Further, the DCP party leader called on Sifuna’s supporters to join the new party and back its candidates in next year’s polls. 

“I appeal to all those who support the candidature of Senator Edwin Sifuna to join his new party and back aspirants for the various positions under the party. Strong political parties are essential for the growth of our democracy as a country,” added Gachagua. 

On Sunday, Senator Sifuna officially unveiled The Equitable Party (TEP) as the political vehicle for his 2027 presidential bid. 

Speaking during the event on Sunday, October 4, TEP party leader Gilbert Marava said Sifuna will be the party's leader and will run for the presidency on TEP's ticket.

Marava said Sifuna's entry would see him take over the leadership of the party as it prepares for the 2027 General Election.

"Sifuna is going to run for president, and he will be the next leader of The Equittable Party (TEP)," he said.

Sifuna's unveiling of The Equitable Party attracted several prominent political figures from across the country.

Among those present were Siaya Governor James Orengo, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, Senators Godfrey Osotsi (Vihiga), Richard Onyonka (Kisii), and Boni Khalwale (Kakamega).

MPs Babu Owino (Embakasi East), Caroli Omondi (Suba South), Patrick Makau (Mavoko), Antony Kibagendi (Kitutu Chache South), Jack Wamboka (Bumula), and Majimbo Kalasinga (Kabuchai).
