On Monday, October 5, President William Ruto hosted South Sudanese Head of State Salva Kiir Mayardit at State House, Nairobi.
Ruto said that the two leaders had talks about the relations between Kenya and South Sudan, and explored trade and investment opportunities.
The two leaders also spoke at length about the upcoming General Elections in South Sudan in December 2026.
"We expressed satisfaction with the strong relations between our two nations and resolved to continue opening more opportunities for trade and investment for our citizens.
"Commended South Sudan for the General Election to be held in December 2026. Kenya stands ready to support South Sudan in this endeavour while encouraging dialogue and consensus among all parties," Ruto wrote.

He expressed gratitude to President Kiir for his support during the groundbreaking of the Dangote East Africa Refinery in Lamu.
Earlier, South Sudanese Presidential Press Secretary Ambassador Arek Ajou Deng said that Kiir will hold high-level bilateral meetings with Ruto.
Deng added that during the meeting, the South Sudanese President will consolidate broader regional and continental support for South Sudan's elections.
"Those meetings are aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two countries. The discussions are expected to focus on bilateral relations, South Sudan's electoral preparations and the measures required to ensure peaceful, credible and successful elections,"
"The two leaders will also discuss matters around economic and infrastructural cooperation, including the refinery launched in Lamu last week and the respective roles Kenya and South Sudan will be playing in the support of the refinery," she stated.
Kiir's visit to Kenya is his first trip outside South Sudan since the dissolution of the Transitional Government of National Unity.
He was received at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by Kenyan Cabinet Secretary for Public Service Geoffrey Kiringa Ruku. He was accompanied by officials from South Sudan's embassy in Kenya, led by Ambassador Simon Juach Deng.
