Former Kiambu County Governor James Nyoro has confirmed that he has joined the race to unseat incumbent Kimani Wamatangi in 2027.

Speaking on Tuesday, October 6, Nyoro expressed confidence that he can win the election despite announcing his bid less than a year before the polls.

However, he declined to reveal which political party he will use to run for Governor, but promised residents that he would not disappoint them.

"I am going to vie for the position of Governor for Kiambu County in 2027. I am coming in with my agenda and will stipulate what it is," Nyoro stated.

The former Kiambu Governor called on non-Kikuyu residents in the county to ensure they change their voting station to the region.

He argued that nearly 40 per cent of the residents are non-Kikuyus, and during the election period, they often vote elsewhere, which paves the way for non-performing politicians to be elected.

"40 percent of the population in Kiambu are non-Kikuyus, yet when it comes to registration of votes, they register in their home area and during the voting, they travel there.

"When they come back, they realise that there is no water or good health. Vote here; where you leave, not where you come from," Nyoro stated.

Nyoro will go toe-to-toe with Wamatangi, who has confirmed that he will run for re-election, but not under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.

The incumbent declared that the residents of Kiambu will ultimately determine which political party he joins in the future.

"When the time comes, the people of Kiambu will give me the direction to which political party I will join. But no amount of persecution, blackmail, or threats from any quarters will force me to join political factions or engage in early politicking," he said.
