Cabinet Secretary for Co-operatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Development, Wycliffe Oparanya, has announced the death of Kenya's first Ambassador to the United States, Mzee Burudi Nabwera.
In a statement issued on Friday, October 9, Oparanya said that the late Mzee Nabwera's passing deeply saddened him.
He mourned him as a distinguished leader and diplomat who served the nation with dedication and honour.
"As Kenya’s first Ambassador to the United States and first Permanent Representative to the United Nations, former Minister of State in the Office of the President and the first Member of Parliament for Lugari Constituency following its creation in 1988, Mzee Nabwera leaves behind an enduring legacy of leadership and public service.
"His contribution to Kenya’s diplomatic relations, governance and national development will remain etched in our history," Oparanya wrote.

The MSMEs Development CS sent his heartfelt condolences to the deceased's family, friends, the people of Lugari and the entire nation during this difficult time, and may the soul of Mzee Burudi Nabwera rest in eternal peace.
Former CS Eliud Owalo also offered his condolences to Nabwera's family. He remembered him for making significant contributions to the country’s public service and leadership.
"I remember him as a leader whose experience and contribution to the institution were invaluable. His demise is a great loss to the people of Lugari, and the nation at large," Owalo wrote.
Former Kimilili Member of Parliament (MP) Chris Wamalawa mourned the former Ambassador. He eulogises him as a respected elder who offered him valuable guidance in my service as a legislator.
"His wisdom and counsel will be greatly missed. Heartfelt condolences to the family. May he rest in peace," Wamalwa wrote.
The announcement came days after Chief Justice Emeritus David Maraga announced the death of his sister, Sabina Kemunto Otiambo. Maraga mourned his sister as a pillar of strength to their family and a cherished sister.
