Officers from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have arrested a teacher in connection with soliciting bribes from unemployed teachers in exchange for securing them jobs through the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

In a statement on Tuesday October 13, EACC said the suspect identified as Lilian Nelima Buluma, was arrested on Monday, October 12, 2026.

The commission noted that the suspect was nabbed following preliminary investigations into complaints that she had demanded Ksh100,000 from each of three unemployed teachers, totaling to Ksh300,000.

“The suspect was arrested on October 12 2026 following preliminary investigations into complaints that she had demanded KES100,000 from each of three unemployed teachers, totaling Ksh300,000,” EACC said.

According to EACC, Buluma had already received Ksh150,000 through M-Pesa as part of the alleged bribes.

The teacher purported to have connections within the TSC and other government offices that could help her facilitate the recruitment of the job seekers.

“She purported to have connections within TSC and other government offices that would enable her to facilitate the recruitment,” EACC said.

Following her arrest, the suspect was processed at the EACC Western Regional Office and booked at Bungoma Police Station pending conclusion of investigations.

Bumula faces possible charges of requesting and receiving a bribe, contrary to Section 6 as read with Section 18 of the Anti-Bribery Act, 2016.

This comes days after EACC detectives arrested a police officer attached to the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) at the Isinya Weighbridge over an alleged Ksh60,000 bribery incident.

In a statement on Monday, October 5, the commission said the arrest followed a complaint lodged on October 2, 2026, concerning an alleged demand for a bribe by Corporal Kennedy Monyo Waweru, who was stationed at the Isinya Weighbridge.

According to the Commission, the complainant alleged that Waweru requested Ksh60,000 in exchange for influencing the charge they would face.

The officer was allegedly seeking to have the complainant charged with the lesser offence of "failing to stop" instead of the offence of "evading a weighbridge."

EACC said investigations were launched following receipt of the complaint and culminated in the officer's arrest on October 5, 2026.
