Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has responded to President William Ruto’s criticism over his Ksh24,000 monthly contribution to the Housing Levy.

In a statement on Wednesday October 14, Sifuna said they should also discuss the Ksh43,000 he pays for the Social Health authority (SHA) which he described as a scam.

The Linda Mwananchi leader also claimed he is deducted Ksh500,000 in Pay As You Earn (PAYE) adding that the taxes are mismanaged.

“Is he done ranting about the 24K I pay for his housing scam because there is this Ksh43,000 I pay every month for his SHA scam we also need to discuss.

“Once we are done with that, we can discuss the Ksh500,000 in PAYE he takes every single month and splashes on tea and mandazi at State House, all while insulting us taxpayers who bear the burden of his greed,” said Sifuna.

Further, Senator Sifuna vowed to scrap the housing levy should the opposition win in the 2027 General Election.

“In 2027 we are cutting the fat out of our budget to bring relief to all Kenyan workers. The housing levy will go with Ruto,” added Sifuna.

On Tuesday October 13, President Ruto told off Sifuna over criticizing the Affordable Housing program.

The Head of State said that the salary Sifuna gets in the Senate is funded by taxpayers including Kenyans whose children benefit from jobs created by the Affordable Housing Program.

“I heard another fellow the other day saying that he pays Ksh24,000 for housing from his salary, yet he is a senator. Now he has a plan to stop the Affordable Housing Programme simply because he pays Ksh24,000,” Ruto said.

He added,” I want to tell him to use his brain and stop being foolish. The people paying your salary are these very Kenyans. One million children of these Kenyans are working in the housing programme.”

President Ruto went on to argue that if Sifuna pays Ksh24,000 towards the Housing Levy, then his salary is more than Ksh1 million.
