Kenya will co-chair the global School Meals Coalition, alongside Brazil, Finland and France.
Kenya has been named the fourth co-chair of the global School Meals Coalition, alongside Brazil, Finland and France.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, October 14, the Ministry of Education explained that the recognition reflected the government's consistent commitment to advancing school meals as a key driver of children’s wellbeing, education and sustainable food systems.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba received the honours during the Third Ministerial Meeting of the Taskforce of the School Meals Coalition in Rome, Italy.
"Kenya is deeply honoured to join Brazil, Finland and France as the fourth co-chair. This is in recognition of the reality that efficiency in the provision of school meals requires collective action and coordinated leadership.
"We take this responsibility with a strong sense of commitment and with confidence in the lesson that the Coalition has already manifested; that when governments come together around a shared ambition on and for children, meaningful change is possible," Ogamba said.

The Education CS told the School Meals Coalition that Kenya planned to implement a nationwide use of renewable energy to sustain its school feeding programme.
"In Kenya we are rolling out the clean cooking programme to explore the possibility of carbon financing to support our school feeding programme," he said.
Ogamba further intimated plans to enter a deal with the World Food Programme (WFP) to ensure sustainable food security for school-going children under a debt-for-food arrangement.
"We are also working on pioneering a debt-for-food conversion with the WFP as a pathway to increasing investments for schools over the coming years. This will redirect savings from debt servicing towards long-term investment in food security and resilience," he said.
The Education Boss was accompanied by, among others, the Ambassador of Kenya to Italy, H.E. Fredrick Matwang’a and the CEO, National Council for Nomadic Education in Kenya, Harun Yusuff.
