Kieni Member of Parliament Njoroge Wainaina has announced his departure from the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.
Speaking on Saturday, October 17, in Kieni, Nyeri County, Wainaina said he has joined the Ufanisi Kenya Party.
The MP explained that his decision to leave the President William Ruto-led party was driven by the needs and interests of Kieni residents.
“Because of the gods, and because we have occasionally been reminded that we went to a wedding with someone else’s vehicle, I have made my 504 that will carry all the people of Kieni. This is Ufanisi Kenya Party,” said Wainaina.
The Kieni lawmaker added that he is the second party leader from Nyeri County after former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

“I am the second known party leader in Nyeri County after Rigathi Gachagua,” Wainaina added.
This comes days after Githunguri Member of Parliament (MP) Gathoni Wamuchomba announced her exit from the UDA party.
Speaking on Thursday, October 8, Wamuchomba confirmed that she would not defend her seat in 2027 under UDA, but through a party which her electorate will recommend.
She claimed that the UDA and its affiliates have no regard for others.
"Therefore, after soul-searching and serious consultations with my voters, community leaders and the church, my conscience does not allow me to dine, associate and cluster with people who have no regard for others. Therefore, I am not going to defend, campaign or seek any political seat through my party, UDA," the MP stated.
On October 9, Nakuru Senator Tabitha Njoroge also dumped the UDA party and joined DCP.
Njoroge said she recognized her supporters as the people who gave her the mandate to serve in the Senate.
The Nakuru Senator also declared she will run for the Nakuru Gubernatorial seat on a DCP ticket in 2027.
"You can see I have dressed in green today. My clothes and even my ring are all green; I will vie for that seat (governorship) under DCP," she added.
