11:30 am: President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy, William Ruto arrive at the Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium.


The country is today celebrating 58 years of self-rule in what is commonly known as Madaraka Day.

President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to lead Kenyans in celebrating the event from Mamboleo grounds in Kisumu City.

Due to the Covid-19 situation in the country and specifically Kisumu, only 3,000 people will be allowed to enter the meeting venue.


The first ever national event to be celebrated in the lake side city of Kisumu, and is part of President Kenyatta’s plan of devolving national events to the counties.

So far, several dignitaries have arrived at the venue with the President expected within the next one hour.
