On Monday, October 19, President William Ruto held a consultative meeting with more than 5,000 Kalenjin elders from the North and South Rift at Eldoret State Lodge, Uasin Gishu County.
During the meeting, Ruto explained to the elders his plan to create an equal country through equitable development projects.
He explained that the 'Usawa ni Sawa' plan was conceived to bridge the big gap between the haves and the have-nots in the country.
The President reaffirmed his government's commitment to strengthening unity within the region and across the country while ensuring equitable development for all Kenyans.
"We have had a country where there is a big huge gap between the poor and the rich. That is why we said that we need to create a balance in society because only the government can do that; that is why we are saying 'Usawa ni Sawa.

"We agreed to embrace “Usawa ni Sawa, Mbele Pamoja” as our rallying call for unity, equitable development and shared prosperity," he reiterated.
The Head of State's discussions with the Kalenjin Elders also included a stock-taking of the development progress in the region, including identifying areas requiring further attention.
"We discussed plans. We agreed to fast-track priority programmes in infrastructure development, agricultural reforms and youth employment to create more opportunities and improve livelihoods," Ruto stated.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen praised the outcome of the meeting, stating that elders bring wisdom, experience and foresight to the table.
Murkomen said the government's partnership with them has contributed immensely to our success in promoting cohesion, peacebuilding and conflict resolution, as well as combating banditry and substance abuse.
"We will continue working closely with elders from all parts of our country to ensure sustainable peace and progress is attained," he remarked.
Earlier, Murkomen confirmed that Kipchoge Keino Stadium is ready to host the 2026 Mashujaa Day celebrations. He said that overflow seating areas and screens have also been provided to allow more people to participate comfortably.
