Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has given an update on the ongoing upgrading of the Stella–Sibuoche–Gogo Falls Road to bitumen standards.

PS Omollo noted that the road project is part of the government’s infrastructure programme to upgrade 1,490 kilometers of roads in the Nyanza region.

“The upgrading of the Stella–Sibuoche–Gogo Falls Road to bitumen standard in Uriri Constituency, Migori County, is the first-ever tarmac road within the constituency, coming 63 years after independence under the current regime.

The Interior PS said the 53-kilometre project is expected to unlock South Nyanza's economic potential through improved connectivity.

Omollo also said the road links eastern and western Migori and currently serves as a diversion route during the reconstruction of the Migori River Bridge.

Further, PS Omollo said the road will shorten journeys and ease movement of agricultural produce once complete.

“Once complete, it will shorten journeys, lower transport costs, ease the movement of agricultural produce and improve access to the popular Gogo Falls attraction,” he stated.

He highlighted that the improved connectivity will bring government services closer to rural communities while opening new avenues for trade, tourism and investment.

This comes a day after PS Omollo gave an update on the reconstruction of the Migori River Bridge along the Kisii–Migori–Isebania (A1) highway.

In a statement on Thursday, Omollo said the original structure succumbed to the combined strain of severe historical flooding and the heavy loads of commercial cargo.

The reconstruction of the bridge is being done by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA).

“The bridge is being built wider and stronger to accommodate growing traffic volumes and Migori's expanding urban economy,” PS Omollo said.
