"There is no miracle of someone becoming an MP today and becoming President tomorrow."

The Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetang'ula, has maintained that Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna is not ripe to become the President of Kenya.

Speaking in Vihiga County on Friday, October 23, Wetang'ula claimed that Sifuna, a first-time Senator, cannot leapfrog to the presidency without climbing the political ladder and gaining the experience needed.

He said that Kenya's former Presidents had spent some time in Parliament before rising to the top seat, and added that Sifuna would need a miracle to be the first MP to become President after serving one term in Parliament.

"Jomo Kenyatta was released from prison aged 75, and ruled the country for 15 years. Moi joined Parliament in 1957 and became President in 1978; Kibaki became an MP in 1963 but did not become President until 2002, Uhuru and Ruto joined in 1997 but waited until 2013 and 2022, respectively.

"You can clearly see that there is no miracle of someone becoming an MP today and becoming President tomorrow. You must gain experience; you must know people, you must traverse the entire country to build friendships and partnerships," he said.

The NA Speaker added that even though the late Raila Odinga never made the Presidency, his experience in politics gave him the wisdom to put his personal interests aside for the sake of Kenyans.

He argued that Sifuna was not politically ripe to make such decisions and boldly claimed that he was the best pick to become Head of State in 2032.

"Raila tried five times but missed out, but he was wise because even if he lost, he worked with those who were elected.

"Now we have young men who know think that they are bigger than their fathers. I joined Parliament in 1992, and by God's grace and your support, I will become President in 2032," Wetang'ula reiterated.

Earlier, Sifuna rubbished claimed that he is inexperienced to lead the country. He maintained that neither his age nor his financial muscle determines whether he can become President.

The Nairobi Senator maintained that he will become the first one-term senator to become President, and added that God's guidance will lead him.

He added that a miracle will happen in 2027, and expressed confidence that Linda Mwananchi will clinch the presidency.

“We are changing how Kenyan politics is run. Kuna muujiza tutafanya 2027, that it is possible to make Linda Mwananchi popular across the country in less than 10 months and win the presidency,” he said.
