The NPS called out Senator Nyamu, terming her remarks as "regrettable."
The National Police Service (NPS) has announced kickstarting a probe into the sentiments by nominated senator Karen Nyamu, who admitted to partaking in a malpractice in police recruitment.
Speaking during a radio interview on October 23, the senator revealed she helped one of her supporters get recruited through dubious means.
The lawmaker, sponsored to the Senate by the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, shared that the supporter in question did not have the basic education requirement, a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate, and that she had to help them forge to get the chance.
Whilst the scheme worked and the supporter joined the service, their cheating was unmasked at the Kiganjo Police Training College, where background checks showed their certificate was indeed doctored.
Reacting to the sentiments, the police termed the confession as "regrettable and unacceptable."

In an official statement Saturday, October 24, NPS spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga said the service was examining Nyamu's remarks.

He confirmed that the case referred to by Nyamu was indeed flagged at Kiganjo, with those involved getting expulsion.
"This case was among several others flagged at the training college, which led to the expulsion of the recruits concerned," Nyaga said.
He warned the public against leveraging apparent loopholes to cheat the police recruitment system.
According to Nyaga, the entire recruitment process is capable of ultimately sieving out cheating methods that might have passed initial stages.
"Members of the public are advised that the NPS treats the matter of recruitment with the utmost seriousness and deploys strict verification protocols. Any dishonest attempts, including the use of fake documents, cannot succeed," Nyaga said.
The NPS stated that it would continue to discharge its employment obligations stringently, professionally, and within the law.
Nyaga added that the service would ensure that all human resource responsibilities, including recruitment, remain thorough, accountable, and transparent, in accordance with Article 245(4)(c) of the constitution.
