Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Nelson Havi has condemned Chief Justice Martha Koome's handling of President Uhuru Kenyatta's sentiments towards the judiciary on the nullification of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) process.
Havi argued that CJ Koome should have by now defended the independence of the Judiciary after the Head of State alleged that JSC overstepped its role in the ruling and subverted the will of the people.
Speaking to NairobiLeo.co.ke, Havi stated that Koome should urge the judges of the Court of Appeal to be impartial, especially in the handling of the BBI case.
"What the CJ should have done is what Maraga would have done. Call for a conference outside her office and issue a warning that the judges of the court of appeal who are considering this matter should not be intimidated, cases are decided of the law and facts.
"It is improper of the president to say he will decide to do what the people tell him to do and instead of what the law commands him to do. He took an oath to uphold the constitution," Havi stated.

In a tweet, the LSK President commended President Daniel Musinga of the Court of Appeal for issuing a firm directive on the BBI case.
"Chief Justice Martha Koome should have by now defended the independence of the Judiciary, threatened by pronouncements of the Executive in an attempt to influence the outcome of the BBI Appeal.
"Well done President Daniel Musinga JA for the firm directions on the matter," he commended.
Justice Musinga today directed that the case will be heard by a 7-judge bench, and ruled all appeals (against and for BBI) are consolidated and shall be heard together on June 29 and 30, July 1 and 2.
