The decision was reached during a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting chaired by Jubilee Party Leader Fred Matiang'i on Tuesday, October 27.

Jubilee Party has appointed an Inter-Party Coalition Building Committee to review the draft agreement for the Ukombozi Alliance and explore ways of strengthening cooperation among opposition parties ahead of the 2027 General Election.

In a statement on Wednesday, October 28, the party said the decision was reached during a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting chaired by Jubilee Party Leader Fred Matiang'i on Tuesday, October 27.

"Recognizing Jubilee Party's membership in the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance and the importance of unity among opposition parties ahead of the 2027 General Election, the NEC appointed an Inter-Party Coalition Building Committee to spearhead engagements with other like-minded parties and coalitions," the statement read.

According to Jubilee Party, the committee will be chaired by Senator Kembi Gitura, with National Secretary General Moitalel Ole Kenta and Janet Ong'era serving as members.

Among its key responsibilities will be reviewing the draft Deed of Agreement for the Ukombozi Alliance (TUA) and proposing amendments where necessary.

Jubilee said the committee would submit its recommendations to the NEC, which will consider the proposals and provide further direction on the party's next steps.

"The NEC reaffirmed the Party's commitment to constructive dialogue, cooperation and the pursuit of a common agenda for the transformation of our country. Jubilee recognizes that building consensus and strengthening unity among opposition parties are essential in preparing for the 2027 General Election.

"The Committee is expected to report its recommendations to the NEC for consideration and further direction," the statement added.

Separately, the NEC approved Matiang’i's appointment of two interim party officials to fill vacant positions within the party.

Lucy Naisiae Kashu was appointed Interim Chairperson of the Party Women's Caucus, while Madina Yunis Mahat was named Interim Deputy National Organizing Secretary.

This comes weeks after Jubilee Deputy Party Leader Jeremiah Koni questioned the party’s continued involvement in the Ukombozi alliance.

In a statement on Thursday, October 8, Kioni said he does not understand why the former ruling party is still part of the alliance.

Kioni said the Jubilee Party should be focusing on building a new and more inclusive coalition ahead of the 2027 general election.

"I really don’t understand what we are doing as Jubilee in this whole Azimio/Ukombozi arrangement.

"At this point, I believe we should be thinking beyond the old formations and working towards a new, genuinely inclusive coalition that brings everyone on board and gives every voice a place at the table," he said.
