“As the Government works to revive economic activity across the Sugar Belt, modern sporting facilities will be vital in supporting youth talent, recreation and community engagement.
“The ongoing upgrade of Migori Stadium is advancing this vision, with canopy installation currently underway,” said PS Omollo.

According to the Interior PS, the facility will feature a CAF-standard football pitch, an eight-lane running track and modern changing rooms.
The Migori Stadium will also have a gymnasium, basketball court, VIP lounges and a pavilion.
PS Omollo also highlighted that the stadium will strengthen Kenya's wider investment in sports infrastructure ahead of the 2027 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

“The upgraded stadium will strengthen Kenya's wider investment in sports infrastructure ahead of AFCON 2027, which Kenya will co-host with Uganda and Tanzania,” the Interior PS added.
This comes days after Sports PS Elijah Mwangi announced that the 10,000-seater Kidundu Stadium in Vihiga County is targeted for completion on December 2026.

In an update on Friday, October 23, PS Mwangi highlighted the significance of the project, noting that it would build on Vihiga’s cultural heritage while providing young people with opportunities to develop their talents.
"Vihiga County is celebrated for its rich heritage, scenic landscapes and granite resources. Now, a new landmark takes shape, promising to transform talent into opportunity and bequeath the young with a sporting legacy for ages to come," he wrote.
According to Mwangi, Kidundu Stadium is designed to accommodate a FIFA-standard football pitch, an eight-lane athletics track, modern changing rooms and VIP facilities.
The infrastructure is expected to provide a platform for nurturing athletes and footballers, while enabling Vihiga County to host major sporting competitions.
Beyond athletics and football, the facility will incorporate spaces intended to support young people working in technology, film, recording and other creative industries.
