Gachagua reminded Muturi and Matiang'i that the presidential race was about numbers, not ideas or plans.

On Tuesday, November 3, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua slammed Jubilee Leader Fred Matiang'i and former Attorney General Justin Muturi for attacking him and branding him a hindrance to the unity of the Opposition.

Speaking in Wamunyoro, Gachagua reminded Muturi and Matiang'i that the presidential race was about numbers, not ideas or plans, because the last two cannot work without the first.

He denied claims that he was proud because of the numbers he can pull, but said that he attained the so -called 'numbers' through hard work and mobilisation.

Gachagua accused the two leaders of sitting pretty and waiting to be spoon-fed the presidency instead of doing the work.

"I know what I am doing, and I am focused. I do not want to be distracted by busybodies. I am serious about vote mobilisation. For us to send William Ruto home, we need 18 million votes, and these numbers cannot be mobilised in boardrooms, press conferences or writing letters.

"Let nobody think that Rigathi Gachagua's work is to mobilise votes then bring them to your wife. How? Don't cheat yourself. I will mobilise votes and will work with fellow mobilisers. Let no one speak to me like their child. Let us have some respect," he said.

The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) Leader maintained that Matiang'i did not have the capacity to lecture him about how to become president or run a political campaign.

"Now those who sit in hotels are making noise at me, claiming that we have pride because we have numbers. We have numbers because we look for them. Go out and mobilise numbers; don't just sit and wait to be given the Presidency. It is not passed around like a cigarette lighter," he said.

He questioned where Muturi got the strength to lecture him about numbers and running a presidential campaign, yet his party, the Democratic Party, performed poorly in a Member of County Assembly by-election.

"I don't know what is wrong with my brother from Mbeere. You are saying that you want to assist us in removing Kasongo, yet in an MCA by-election, you were only able to mobilise 35 people. Kasongo beat you by 238 votes, yet you want to lecture Riggy Gee about numbers? How?" Gachagua posed.

Gachagua hinted that some of the statements stemmed from jealousy after DCP's victory in the Ol-Kalou parliamentary by-election.

He argued that while his party got more than 35,000 votes and clinched the seat, the other parties in the United Opposition barely managed hundreds of votes.

The DCP Leader maintained that the Ol Kalou victory was enough proof that he can mobilise votes against President Ruto.

His sentiments came after Matiang'i claimed that his pride and arrogance will undermine the unity of the United Opposition, while Muturi accused him of bullying other parties.
