The Government has unveiled plans for a new affordable housing development in Kisii Town as it seeks to expand access to decent and affordable homes.

In an update on Saturday, November 7, Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo said the Nyanchwa Affordable Housing Project, also known as Boma Yangu Nyanchwa Estate, would provide accommodation for hundreds of residents once completed.

"This growth has increased pressure on existing housing, prompting the Government to expand access to decent, affordable homes through projects such as the Nyanchwa Affordable Housing Project (Boma Yangu Nyanchwa Estate), which will accommodate 189 families," he wrote.

According to Omollo, the estate will comprise two residential blocks standing 13 and 12 floors high, respectively, with housing units targeting different income categories through social, affordable and market-rate housing options.

The development will also feature supporting amenities designed to provide residents with essential services within the estate, including retail shops, a kindergarten, a social hall and parking facilities.

The project will further incorporate essential water and electricity infrastructure to support the needs of households moving into the development.

Omollo noted that the estate's location would provide residents with convenient access to services and transport facilities, given its proximity to the town centre.

"Its proximity to Kisii Town's Central Business District also offers residents convenient access to essential services and public transport," he added.

This comes days after the government announced plans to readvertise a tender for the sale and lease of commercial business spaces at the Pioneer Affordable Housing Estate in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, following its cancellation.

In a notice on Tuesday, October 27, the Affordable Housing Board announced the cancellation of Tender No. AHB/DISPOSAL/02/2026-2027, which covered the proposed disposal, sale, and lease of commercial spaces at the housing estate.

"The Affordable Housing Board wishes to notify all prospective bidders and the general public that Tender No. AHB/DISPOSAL/02/2026-2027 for the proposed disposal/sale and lease of commercial business spaces at the Pioneer Affordable Housing Estate in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, is hereby cancelled," the notice read.

The Board said the tender would be advertised again at a later date and advised interested bidders to monitor its official communication channels and other designated platforms for updates on the process.

"The tender will be readvertised in due course. Interested bidders are advised to check the Affordable Housing Board website, the Public Procurement Information Portal, mygov and the print media for the readvertisement and further information," the notice added.
