The officers chased after the two suspects and managed to catch up with them shortly afterwards.

However, as they moved to arrest the suspects, one of them drew a knife in an attempt to stab one of the police officers.

The officer discharged his firearm and shot the suspect dead.

“As they moved to apprehend them, one of the men drew a knife and turned on an officer in an attempt to stab him. Faced with an imminent threat to his life, the officer discharged his firearm, fatally injuring the suspect,” NPS stated.

A subsequent search led to the recovery of a mini pistol, a knife, and a mobile phone that had been stolen from the woman.

The service urged members of the public to remain vigilant, particularly as the year ends.

“Members of the public are encouraged to remain vigilant, especially as the year draws to a close, when crime patterns have consistently shown robbery, stealing, and other opportunistic offences to be heightened,” NPS added.

This comes months after four suspected armed robbers were killed following a shootout with police officers in Uasin Gishu County.

In a statement on July 6, the National Police Service (NPS) said the incident happened shortly after midnight along the Eldoret–Kiplombe Road.

According to the NPS, police officers were on a routine patrol when they received intelligence that six armed men dressed in military-style attire were robbing members of the public.

The officers proceeded to Greenfield Junction, where they encountered six individuals matching the description provided.

NPS noted that the six suspects were ordered to stop and identify themselves, but they allegedly defied the orders and opened fire on the officers.

The police responded to the attack, resulting in a fierce shootout in which four of the six suspects were shot dead.

However, two suspects managed to escape the scene with gunshot wounds.

“The suspects were ordered to stop and identify themselves; however, they defied the lawful orders and opened fire on the officers.

“The officers responded decisively to the imminent threat, engaging the armed suspects in a shootout. As a result, four suspects were fatally wounded, while two others fled the scene,” NPS stated.
