A section of Deputy President William Ruto’s allies has poured cold water on plans by Jubilee and ODM parties to field a joint candidate in the 2022 presidential election.
ODM and Jubilee leaders have been meeting over plans to come up with a coalition pact that will see them work together in 2022, in the spirit of the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga.
Confirming the talks, Jubilee Party Secretary General Raphael Tuju noted that it was the first step towards Jubilee forming a partnership with ODM.
“The meeting we have had today is a culmination of several other meetings that we have held before to formalise the coalition with the former Prime Minister,” Tuju said.
Sifuna echoed Tuju’s remarks stating that: “We had our initial meeting today. We have started talks that will see us having a pre-2022 coalition agreement with Jubilee.”

Reacting to the talks, a section of Ruto’s allies noted that they are ready to face off with any candidate that will be fronted by the coalition.
Soy Member of Parliament Caleb Kositany said: “Finally the reason we were tossed out of jubilee is clear. Fare thee will jubilee you were mutilated before your peek. ODM is now fully in government.”
On his part, Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichungwah appeared to suggest that following the announcement, he is no longer part of Jubilee.
“I am not and I can never be in the Tuju-Murathe-Uhuru-Raila Alliance. Hiyo ni yao. Hustler Nation forever,” he said.
Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga said if the coalition materializes, the DP will have an easy job in 2022.
“This is good. It'll be easy for the DP to beat them under that tribal outfit they're formulating,” she said.
Communication Director in the DP’s office Emmanuel Talam argued that the 2022 presidential election will be pitting “Empowerment vs Power”.
“Perfect. Farasi ni mbili. Empowerment vs Power. Let the people decide,” he tweeted.
