A headteacher died by suicide in his office on Monday evening at a school in Mwingi, Kitui County.
Kioko Mutie, the headteacher at Yanyonge Primary School, hanged himself inside his office in an incident that shocked the community.
Area Assistant Chief Mulinge Wambua confirmed the incident describing Mutie as a hardworking person. His body was moved to Mwingi hospital mortuary.
This comes barely a day after a prison officer shot himself dead at the Nairobi remand prison. The officer identified as Felix Kiprono reportedly committed suicide on Tuesday at the prison's watchtower.
A video seen by Nairobileo showed officers at the scene lowering his body from the watchtower while a crowd observed.
A week ago the country was shocked after a post-graduate medical student at the University of Nairobi took her own life after she injected herself with anaesthesia inducing medicine while inside her car.
The tragic incident occurred on the afternoon of June 12, 2021, at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) parking lot.
Dr Lydia Wahura Kanyoro, 35, a postgraduate student in Paediatrics at the UoN’s School of Medicine in KNH, has taken her own life out of depression. Her death has since highlighted the growing concern of depression among medical students and practitioners.
She wrote a suicide note informing her relatives of where she was and what she was about to do, before taking her life.
