Nation Media sports editor Elias Makori has been appointed to the World Athletics Heritage Plaque Panel of Experts.
Mr. Makori was appointed to the World Athletics body on Thursday 1st July 2021 with the announcement being made by Chris Turner, the first director of the global organisation.
"We would very much like you to join our panel of experts, a small group of historians and statisticians whose membership covers all six continental areas,” Turner said.

Mr Makori has since received a raft of congratulatory messages including one from Deputy President William Ruto.

Hongera Bwana Makori," DP William Ruto wrote on Twitter.
Makori is one of Kenya's most experienced sports journalists and has worked at Nation Media Group for the past 28 years. He has since climbed up the rungs to become the media house' sports managing editor.
Makori holds a Masters Degree in Sports Management from Barcelona's Cruyff Institute of Sports Studies and won the 2012 IAAF World Journalist of the Year. He has previously served as World Athletics Press Commission and Press and Media Operations Advisory group.
The World Athletics Heritage Plaque Panel of experts was established by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) in 2017. Its key goalisg to "better employ athletics’ history, its heroes and heroines, their artefacts and the documents, video and photographs that portray them, to engage with the stars and fans of the present and future."
