A Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officer Kelvin Amwayi was taken into custody on Sunday, July 4th 2021 on suspicion of killing his girlfriend Jackline Muthoni.
Joshua Owiti, a security guard at Kwe House in Ngumba, Nairobi called the police to the apartment at 4 am on Saturday after the deceased fell off a fourth-floor balcony and landed on the windscreen of a Nissan Tiida. This was after a commotion between a couple who lived on the fourth floor of the building.
On arriving at the scene of crime, officers found a police note identifying police constable Kelvin Amwayi. It is at that point that the main suspect was identified as a police officer.

Amwayi spent the better part of Saturday 3rd July and Sunday on the run after making his escape before the officers arrived. In a statement to the police after his arrest, Amwayi claimed that his girlfriend jumped from the balcony and he was not involved in her death.
This is despite the deceased's family denying the existence of a relationship between the two. The late Muthoni's family told the media that the two only met on Thursday 1st July.
Kelvin Amwayi is expected to be charged with murder with the case now under the DCI Homicide department. An autopsy on the late Jackline Muthoni's body will be conducted on Monday 5th July.
