Prior to the visit, Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana had hosted his Machakos and Kitui counterparts Alfred Mutua and Charity Ngilu at his official residence in Wote, to discuss one development agenda that would be presented to the President.
Kibwana noted that the region had lagged behind in terms of development and expressed optimism that Kenyatta's tour would kick-start the projects.
On his part, Governor Mutua Mutua said, "We expect the President to bring us a basket of goodies that will benefit our people. Those leaders who want only to be seen as close to the President without bringing any tangible development should keep-off."
Kisumu county recently experienced a surge in Covid-19 cases after hosting Madaraka day celebrations on 1st June 2021.
A section of experts blamed the surge on the event that attracted huge crowds with some disregarding social distance and wearing of masks.
