A woman who was shot in Kitale on Friday for mistakenly being suspected killer cop Caroline Kangogo has claimed that her shooter made unsuccessful sexual advances towards her, leading to the shooting.
Speaking on Saturday, Phanice Chemutai Juma told a local daily that she first met businessman Ken Muyundo; a licensed gun owner on Thursday evening.
According to her, she arrived at Kiminini Market on Thursday evening and decided to spend the night in one of the hotels since she could not make it to her destination on time due to the current nationwide curfew.
Later that evening, she decided to get food from a nearby cafeteria and that is when she allegedly saw a Prado at the parking lot. According to her, Mr Muyondo who was in the car called her and she obliged.
“He told me he was glad to meet me and wanted us to know each other more. I informed him I was committed and what he was asking could not happen,” she told a local daily.

She further noted that Mr Muyundo showed so much interest in her to an extent that he requested for her phone number.
Chemutai narrated that she proceeded with her endavours that night only to find Mr Muyondo waiting for her on her way back. On seeing the businessman, she felt insecure and alerted the caretaker.
“We walked to the vehicle and I showed her the man in the car. He gave her Sh1,000 telling her to excuse herself. That was the point when he drew a gun and shot at me saying that I was the woman he was looking for,” she divulged.
Following the shooting, Chemutai called for help and was assisted by officers on patrol who rushed her to the hospital.
According to Chemutai’s mum, her daughter was in Kiminini to collect the birth certificate for her younger sister.
“She later called asking for money needed to facilitate the process. I sent her the money and in the evening she told me she could not return home due to the curfew,” Chemutai’s mother said.
Meanwhile, Mr Muyondo who told detectives that she shot Chemutai on suspicion that she was Caroline Kangogo was arrested and is currently in police custody.
Police have filed an application at the court seeking more time to carry out investigations.
