In May 2020, the National Executive Council led by Hon Simiyu in his capacity as the party's secretary-general attempted to oust Senator Wetangula from his position as party leader.
In his stead, Kanduyi Lawmaker Wafula Wamunyinyi was to be installed as the interim Ford Kenya Party Leader.
Also usurped from his position was Party Organising Secretary Chris Mandu Mandu.
These changes were announced in a chaotic press conference on May 31st held at a Nairobi hotel that was at one point disrupted by allies of the beleaguered Wetangula.
in retaliation, Wetangula announced the suspension of Eseli Simiyu whom he replaced with Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa, Wafula Wamunyinyi was replaced in the NEC by Vincent Kemosi.
Cynthia Mutere, the party's Women's League chair was replaced by Roseline Adambi.
Less than a month later, Senator Wetangla secured conservatory orders from the High Court against the notice that unseated him from his position.
The orders also restricted Hon Eseli Simiyu and Hon Wamunyinyi from acting on behalf of the party.
The two are now back on the warpath facing off against the Bungoma Senator in a political tiff that may split the party even further.
Senator Wetangula is one of the principals behind the formation of the One Kenya Alliance where he has partnered with Musalia Mudavadi, Kalonzo Musyoka and Gideon Moi.
